Overview

"Show! Reveal! Bloom!"

It felt like just yesterday when I embarked on a school bus and headed into the middle of the woods. Little did I know that this spontaneous excursion would end up becoming one of the most defining moments of my high school experience.

In 2019, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), an intensive leadership camp for high school students to learn valuable lessons about leadership, team building, and personal growth.

In 2020, I joined the planning committee as a member of the Aesthetics team. From 2021-2022, I became a Lead Alumni and Facilitator. Working with a team of seven, we planned RYLA's first five-day program for 80+ students across 3 Bay Area counties.

Design and Marketing

From creating marketing assets to assembling photo backdrops, the goal of the Aesthetics Committee was to bring the camp to life through our designs.

Every year, RYLA has an overarching theme to guide the program. The theme is incorporated in all activities, bringing a cohesive and meaningful experience to all attendees. One of our past themes was ‘The Hero’s Journey,’ a storytelling framework developed by Joseph Campbell.

Using this theme, I worked on t-shirt and hoodie designs. In addition, I helped create graphics, photo backdrops, and flyers.

Team Facilitation

Facilitators are responsible for engaging students in all camp activities. I led groups of campers through debriefs and demonstrations of the 5 leadership practices: model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart.

The objective was to inspire campers to become dynamic leaders within their schools and communities. From team-building exercises to facilitated discussions, I wanted to help other students feel that they are capable of making a positive impact on this world. The camp offered a unique opportunity to learn from others and build essential skills. Beyond the emphasis on learning, I aimed to create an enjoyable and inclusive environment where lasting friendships and lifelong memories could be made.
